Vacations for many years have been a private affair for myself.   As a child it was planed and done by the parents.  After I got old enough to work, I stopped being able to take what some would consider a normal vacation.  For the most part it was because I was not making enough money or I did not have any time to take time off.  To not starve and be able to pay the bills was the important thing. 

When I started working in the field of computer systems management, money became more available, but time still was an issue.  Now that I am more senior in the field of systems management, I have more time to do vacations.  The money also helped with what I want and like to do.

Almost all the fun I have had, be it climbing lighthouses, looking at Mt Zion national park, playing in giant sequoia trees or looking for little out of the way places has involved riding motorcycles. 

I have had several great rides or vacations if you want to call them that over the last several years.

• 1987    Transport Honda CB750 from NJ to VA
• 1999    Buy and ride a Harley Davidson short trips around NC and VA
• 2001    Buy and ride a Honda Goldwing across the country
• 2002    Ride to North Carolina beach, did not make it but bought new Goldwing (pictured above)
• 2002    Ride to mid-west and Texas
• 2003    Ride to Key West from VA and then back up the coast to DC
• 2003    Ride across country from VA to west coast and back
• 2004    Ride from VA to the outer banks
• 2004    Ride in Texas (pick up another bike, Wing gets broken)
• 2004    Wing fixed, ride to friends wedding from VA to Colorado, return through South Dakota
• 2004    December ride to Key West for Christmas
• 2005    Weekend day long rides for several weekends in CA
• 2005    Long weekend ride to Yosemite
• 2005    Marriage in Vegas and week of honeymoon through UT, CO, NV and back to CA
• 2005    Day trips around NC after moving east from CA
• 2006    Riding with coworker and friends to Wilmington
• 2006    May ride to Key West.  We finally made it all the way down there.

As you can see the riding has ramped up quit a bit over the last 5 + years.
